  • oh, the irony

Yesterday I titled my post “shameless post thief” to acknowledge that I was stealing my friend Mare‘s idea and completing a reading meme.  I received 10 trackbacks on the article – all by content thieves who display the writings of others as content on their pages in order to display advertising.  I’ve long since given up begging them to remove my content from their sites.  It just continues to happen.  What’s amusing is that all 10 of them left my post title in place but cut out my cute explanation of just who’s post i was theiving and why.  Ah, the joys of the Interweebs…

Sheesh! I just downloaded an upgraded version of WordPress a few short months (or was it weeks) ago and now I have to update it again? *sigh* Guess I know what I’m doing when I return home from the visit to my mom’s…

    is it that time already?

I haven’t had time to upload the final colour scheme for the blog (thanks Luna) but I’m sure it’ll knock everyone’s socks off when I do have a chance to use it. In the meantime, I’m back in my basement – but sticking with the brown theme cause it’s just so darn shiny! – attempting to finish my paper before tomorrow. It’s 90% complete. I’m just struggling with establishing my own definition for personality and the subsequent justification for my interpretation. Bah!

Last night I took the evening off in order to head to the bar and watch the Oiler’s pay-per-view. Having never seen a hockey game on PPV before I’m ashamed to admit that it took me an entire period to notice that there are no commercials shown during a PPV game. Not that the lack of commercials made the game any better. The Oil got their panties smacked and I have a feeling we won’t be repeating our dreamlike 2006 run for Sir Stanley’s Cup.

I’ve also clued into the fact that I’m heading home to my mom’s in only a few short days. The trip has been planned for weeks but it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re madly typing away on papers and assignments. Mom got rid of her dsl connection years ago so I’ll be limited to dial-up access while I’m away. I’ll also be working on my final paper for my History class so I may not have a lot of opportunities to blog while I’m gone. We’ll have to play it by ear. If the news reports are correct you can expect to see me break out my blue theme while I’m away. Rumour has it there is still a tonne of snow out on the east coast!

Upperdate: 9pm and the paper is finished. Can I have a cookie now?

I’m back at work (and thus out of the basement) this week so I figured it would be a good time to change the colour scheme.  Since I spent some time last night moving over my old travel journal entries from the Philippines, I selected the browns.  I’ve big plans to move some of my old India travel records over to the blog at some time as well.  Not likely before the weekend…

Perhaps I should set up a poll and allow readers to vote to determine if people want the ability to change the theme based on their own preferences… Nah!  That’s way too democratic for me.

Of course, I have less than a week to finish my paper and no real idea what I’m going to say.  I guess I know what I’ll be doing each evening this week!

    locked in the basement

March 22nd, 2008 she Posted in Cargo Hold, Learning & Education   3 Comments »

Once again I am spending the weekend locked in my basement working on a paper. I expect most of my weekends over the next 3 years will likely be spent in the same manner.

A few weeks back when I loaded the new design and joked that you’d be able to tell my moods based on the theme I’d chosen from my page someone asked (Wendy I think) how people would be able to determine what mood I was in. Since then I’ve had Luna put together a few new headers and colour schemes. I think it’ll be pretty obvious now ;)

    spoke too soon

March 13th, 2008 she Posted in Cargo Hold   1 Comment »

Apparently I tempted the blog gods and spoke to soon when I declared all was well here at the screaming pages last night.  I woke up this morning to discover that one of my 3 subdomains was no longer functioning properly.  Of course, the broken one WOULD be the one that directs my 4 loyal readers to my blog *sigh* Perhaps the gawds are trying to tell me something this week?

In the meantime, you’ll want to update your links or RSS readers to http://daemon-ink.net/blog instead of http://blog.daemon-ink.net.

    forgive the mess

I’m in the process of upgrading my version of WordPress so you may see some slight wonkiness with past posts and comments for a little while. Should be fixed soon.

UPPERDATE: I think I’ve gotten most of the kinks worked out.  At minimum, the categories are all sorted out and the posts are all set to appear again.

If you’ve put on your reading glasses (or taken off the blindfold) you’ll notice we’re dressed a little differently around here today. No. It’s not a result of the shock I’m still reeling from – my old friend Amy‘s recent admission to knitting a cunning hat and NOT sending it to me *sniff* – I’ve been planning this for a while and, of course, enlisted the shiney make it pretty skills of Luna from over at LunaStone Designs. The grand plan is that I’ll rotate back and forth between my old look and this new one based on how cranky I am on any particular day.

Like my recent blogroll cleanup it’s time to clean out the plug-in closet. After all, when you’re trying on a new outfit it only takes a few extra minutes in front of the mirror to check out the fit of a few new plug-ins. There were many losers but the one that will likely be sticking around for a while is pageear. Not only did Darcey introduce me to pageear he also happily handed over two if his graphics so I could also advertize a few good causes. Unlike Darcey I lazily used the plug-in option instead of the manual code so I don’t have the option to automatically rotate the graphics and links when you change pages. Instead, I’ll just randomly rotate the charities/fundraisers as I see fit.

For the time being I’d like to call your attention to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Troop Morale Fund.

Now that I’ve spent all this time dressing up my blog can you guess what I was supposed to be doing today? In a few hours we’ll be heading off into the great white west for an awesome mini-break in Jasper. This is the first time I’ve been to Jasper without the RV and dogs and I’m looking forward to days of leisure. As always, I have reading and assigments due for classes (this week the psych class) by midnight Friday. Perhaps I’ll even finish early this week.

UPDATE: The pageear plug-in works beautifully when the old design is loaded but I’m still working out how to get it to function properly with the new design…

UPPERDATE: I’ve worked out special arrangements with Amy. I’ll soon be the owner of a cunning hat. Shiny!

    what time is it?

February 16th, 2008 she Posted in Cargo Hold   4 Comments »

In true procrastinator’s fashion, I’m taking a page from Joy‘s book and cleaned up some of my blog links and blogroll today. The most important thing I learned this week is that you should never whine about being removed from a fellow bloggers blogroll when they’re doing a clean-up if you don’t have them on your own list. EEP!

With the cleanup go out all the links I don’t pay any attention to anymore and blogs that don’t exist anymore. In come ones that I should have had on my blogroll years ago – like Joy, Susan, and Amy. There are a few that haven’t been updated in a while that I’ve kept around in the hopes that they’ll start back up soon. It seems to have worked for everyone else when it comes to my blog ;)

I still have a long way to go. I’m missing a tonne of my favourite writers.

So for all those visitors/readers who aren’t in my blogroll now’s the time for you to leave a comment and campaign for addition to my daily reading list.

And for those tracking the silliness that is my return to university I’m providing the following status update: History = 20% complete. Psych(o) = ummm, yeah… I’m getting to it… eventually. Due: Monday, midnight ET.
