  • Bangalore: The Return

I didn’t want to leave Singapore and wasn’t interested in getting back on the plane to Bangalore so soon. Upon landing and arranging for a pre-paid taxi at the airport, I returned to the Service Apartments for some much needed rest. Driving to Bannerghatta Road, I was quickly reminded that while I love the friends I’ve made in Manila, and enjoyed my time in Singapore, I’d lost my heart to India – and specifically Bangalore – years before.

The heat, sounds, sights and smells all combine to create an overwhelming sense of peace, gratitude, and appreciation for both Canada and the slowly shrinking world we live in. For all it’s flaws, most notably the continual attempts of India vendors to squeeze as much money from the caucasian foreigners as possible (man, I’m way too poor to pay the prices they’re demanding – good thing I have great shoes and two functioning feet!), India is a beautiful country with a special way of viewing the world. I’m sorry to say I’ve noticed changes in both the people and places around Bangalore as they slowly meld into a more westernized world view…

Views from my balcony this morning…

What’s this walking up the road? Why, it’s a camel!

Enough fun for the day, I need to start working again this afternoon in preparation for the trip into the office tomorrow.

One Response to “Bangalore: The Return”

    1. My husband has just returned from Haiti, and although your photos of Bangalore show a much more modern city and nicer solid buildings, the ever present trash seems to be the same. I think trash is definitely being “globalized” and the poorer countries haven’t figured out what to do with the paper, plastic and metals that making their way into their daily life.
